Privacy Policy

Our approach in plain English

We collect as little data as possible. We don't sell your data. We don't read your files. We delete everything quickly. The rest of this policy explains the details.

Files you upload

When you use one of our PDF tools, any file you upload is transferred over an encrypted SSL connection. Files are stored temporarily on our servers only for the duration needed to complete the requested processing. They are then permanently and automatically deleted — within one hour at the latest.

We do not read the content of your files. We do not share your files with any third party. We do not use your files for any purpose other than the conversion or editing task you explicitly requested.

Many of our tools (JPG to PDF, HTML to PDF, Merge PDF, Split PDF, Rotate PDF, Watermark PDF, Compress PDF) process files entirely in your browser using JavaScript libraries. In those cases, your files never leave your device at all.

Usage data

Like all web servers, ours log standard request data: your IP address, browser type, referring URL, pages visited, and timestamps. This data is used only for security monitoring and aggregate traffic analysis. It is not linked to your identity, not shared with advertisers, and not retained longer than 30 days.

Cookies

We use one functional cookie to remember your dark/light mode preference (pdf99-theme). This is a local storage key, not a tracking cookie. We also display advertisements through a third-party network, which may set its own cookies. You can block third-party cookies in your browser settings at any time without affecting tool functionality.

Advertising

PDF99 is supported by advertising. Our advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to display relevant ads. We do not pass your personal data or file content to advertising partners.

Children

PDF99 is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete any personal data we hold. Since we collect very little, there's usually nothing to provide. Contact us if you have questions about your data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We'll note the date of any change at the top of this page. Continued use of PDF99 after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Cookies in detail

We use two types of cookies. A functional cookie stores your dark or light mode preference in your browser's local storage using the key pdf99-theme. This is a convenience feature that lives only in your browser and is never sent to our servers.

Google AdSense, which funds the site, places advertising cookies. These are third-party cookies managed entirely by Google under their own privacy policy. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's ad settings. Opting out doesn't remove ads — it means ads shown will not be targeted to your browsing history.

Google Analytics is loaded lazily on our pages — it only initialises after your first interaction with the page. It collects standard analytics: page views, session duration, approximate location at country level, and device type. Individual users are not identified or tracked across sessions in any way that persists beyond the session.

Third-party infrastructure

We use Cloudflare for hosting and as a content delivery network. Cloudflare processes all network requests and may log IP addresses for security and performance monitoring under their own privacy policy. Our star rating system runs on Cloudflare Workers — votes are stored with SHA-256 hashed IP addresses (truncated to 24 characters). Raw IP addresses are never stored by us at any point.

Your rights

You have the right to request access to any personal data we hold, to request its deletion, and to object to its processing. Because we collect very little data and don't store files beyond one hour, there is typically very little to provide. Contact us if you have specific requests regarding your personal data.
